ANNA MARIA ISLAND (USA)– Another fisherman has been attacked by a shark on the shores of Anna Maria Island, Florida. It’s the second attack in slightly more than a week.
Authorities say Javier Perez was wade fishing with family members at Bean Point on sunday afternoon when a shark bit him on the back of his left thigh. Perez, who is vacationing on Anna Maria Island, had just dumped his bait bucket into the waist-deep water when the attack occurred, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Perez and family waved down a passing boater who took him to the pier. He was then taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for treatment of a small wound and scratches on his leg. Earlier last week a 21-year-old Longboat Key man was bitten by a shark last weekend while spearfishing off Anna Maria Island. Charles Wickersham was with several friends in the Gulf of Mexico on Sept. 24 when a bull shark bit him in the left thigh. He required surgery at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.
